Background:

Syaoran is/was the main character of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle. As a young boy, he appeared mysteriously in the streets without any memory of his past. A traveling archaeologist took him to his home and adopted him. Syaoran was a really inexpressive child until he and his father went to Clow Country and met princess Sakura, who became his friend and whom he is secretly in love with. Years passed and the bond between Sakura and Syaoran became stronger.
Since his father died he took charge of the excavation running in the ruins of Clow Country. One day Sakura was strangely attracted to those ruins and an ugly thing happened: she lost all her memories, which were in the form of feathers, and the country was attacked by strange soldiers.
He saved Sakura and was transported to the Witch of Dimension's place where she told him that Sakura would die if her memories were not recovered. So Syaoran gave his relationship with Sakura (she won't remember him again) as a price to travel trough dimensions in order to collect Sakura's feathers. He will do this with two more people (Kurogane and Fay) and will be transported by Mokona.
The travel starts pretty fine: they recollect feathers and Sakura gains memories and strength. After they passed some worlds we see that Syaoran is blind of his right eye and has strange personality changes which, in his normal state, he doesn't remember (like MPD XD). In a particular dimension they find themselves in a virtual world named Outo. There they met Syaoran's former teacher: Seishirou. He is a vampire hunter who trained Syaoran how to fight and who can travel trough dimensions too. The man has one of Sakura's feathers and shows that he has no sympathy for Syaoran. Seishirou leaves that dimension with the feather in his power.
When the gang arrives in the world of Tokyo we know the truth: Syaoran is a clone created by the man who attacked Clow Country, Fei Wong Reed, with the sole purpose of regaining Sakura feathers. His 'heart' was given by the original Syaoran (who was captured by Fei Wong) in the form of his right eye, but he was losing that heart while time passed. In Tokyo he lost it completely, leaving him like a machine that just wanted to recollect the feathers. Since Fay's magic was in his eyes he took the wizard left eye and ate it to gain power that would facility his quest.
This Syaoran fell in Memento Eden just before entering Tokyo, after the gang left Lecourt (a world in which he saw Kurogane's past).
Personality: An extremely polite, determined and kind kid, Syaoran is somewhat shy (maybe due to his politeness) but he has no trouble fighting for what he considers worth. He loves books and archeology, knows a lot of languages and is/was extremely protective of Sakura, whom he has a great devotion. He had a mentor/student relationship with Kurogane.
